What could be more entertaining on a Thursday night than to compete in Arcadia Tavern’s goldfish racing competition? This bracket-style tournament takes place every Thursday night at 9 p.m. at Arcadia Tavern, located on Indian School Road and 48th Street in Phoenix.

Each contestant receives one fish and one straw. Goldfish are first come, first serve. If you want your pick at the best fish of the bunch, come to the restaurant around 8 p.m. to select your “partner.”

The first post time is at 9 p.m. The fish are placed in a waiting pool at the end of each tank, the guards are raised and the race begins. Contestants use the straws to blow bubbles behind their fish. The first fish to cross the finish line advances to the next bracket of the competition.

There is no entrance fee, and Arcadia Tavern provides the goldfish and all necessary gear to participate. The first-place winner receives a $100 gift certificate to Arcadia Tavern; second-place winner receive a $50 gift certificate to the restaurant.
