The Arizona Team Reviews 2011

The Arizona Team Reviews Year 2011

The Arizona Team steps back and reviews the year 2011. The Arizona Team has completed numerous community projects and has been a strong leader in the Scottsdale and Greater Phoenix Area

The Arizona Team reviews 2011, while excited for what 2012 has to bring. The Arizona Team has consistently been a strong leader in community involvement. They have contributed to numerous projects. Reviewing 2011, The Arizona Team started off  with a Texas Hold ‘Em Poker tournament to support and bring awareness to The Fisher House. The Fisher House is an organization and project that provides support for America’s military in times of need.

Within the same month, a few members of The Arizona Team attended A Toast to Tutoring put on by Assistance League of Diablo Valley and its auxiliary, Buena Vista Auxiliary to benefit the Buena Vista Tutorial Program. A Toast to Tutoring is a wine tasting and auction event where many guests have the opportunity to bid on live and silent auction items while enjoying great wine and food. All money raised will go towards supporting children’s literacy.

Following these events, the team geared up for the 2011 Walk Now for Autism Speaks. Each member of The Arizona Team donated their personal time and money in order to participate. Autism Speaks is an organization with a mission to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. Autism affects 1 in 110 children. It is more common in children than AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined. However the cause is unknown. Autism Speaks is dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cures for autism. By bringing awareness to autism, this organization is able to continue to work towards their mission.

Not long after, The Arizona Team held a two-week long clothing drive for the International Rescue Committee. The International Rescue Committee is a Phoenix based company that provides support to refugees who have been rescued from disasters around the world. Often times these refugees leave with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The Arizona Team felt, as a duty to support their community, to provide clothing and toiletries to those in need.

After having a chance to really understand the effects of people not only homeless but also going hungry in the community, The Arizona Team decided to hold a food drive for the Greater Phoenix Area. The team was able to get the food drive finished right before Thanksgiving. Being a leading force within community involvement in the Greater Phoenix Area, it is essential that the team positioned its focus on helping their community by raising over 200lbs for food. The impact that the team made on the local need for hunger at a time when every last piece of non-perishable food is key to making someone have something to be thankful for.

Finishing up the year, the team decided to invest their time and energy in helping a family of four have a holiday celebration by purchasing gifts and food through the Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family program. Without the benefit of an adoption, these families would be looking forward to a very grim holiday. When an Adopt-A-Family match is made, the family information and wish lists are sent to the sponsor. The Salvation Army ensures that the family receives the gifts and food the week before Christmas. The Arizona Team admires a program that allows families that are facing hardships to receive a helping hand from local churches, schools, organizations and businesses.
In review, that is quiet a list of community involvement in just a few short months; however, it doesn’t stop there! The Arizona Team is planning events for the upcoming months including basketball tournaments for The Boys and Girls Club of America, Bingo for American Cancer Society and many, many more.
